Treating the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility and the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center as sites for soundscape exploration, this work builds on the experience of field recording at the wastewater treatment plant in Tainan Science Park and connects it to the cultural and industrial development of the two cities. It reveals their differences in region, culture, and mindset, despite sharing an identical “treatment principle,” similar urban development trajectories, and comparable technological visions. The visuals present to viewers the unique environmental contexts of the City of San Jose, accompanied by sounds that shift dimensions of consciousness, seeking out fundamental emotions that both cities share.
