SISTETS  II

8’36” (video); 8' 18" (sound)   |   Sound and single-channel video installation  |  Dimensions variable  |  2023

Treating the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility and the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center as the sites for soundscape exploration, the artist draws on her experience of field recording in the wastewater treatment plant in Tainan Science Park and extends it to connect the humanistic and industrial development of the two cities. The artist unveils their differences in region, culture, and state of mind from their identical “principle of treatment,” similar evolution of urban settlements, and comparable visions of technology. By means of shifting dimensions of consciousness, this work shows the viewers the distinctive state of awareness and environmental contexts of the two cities as well as the fundamental emotions shared between them.
